Who - The Moonbeam will work for any experience level from beginner to expert. More advanced surfers will love the Moonbeam’s ability to easily perform in the pocket with the added nose and tail rocker.
When - The Firewire Moonbeam performs best in average 2-5 foot conditions. The board is designed to be quick and skatey in soft, weaker waves. Overall the Moonbeam is meant to go fast and have fun in a variety of average conditions that most people see around their local breaks.
What - The Moonbeam has Rob Machado’s "Board Eat Board" concave built into its hull. This approach helps to enhance your down the line speed without losing any responsiveness. Anyone who is familiar with the Midas will notice the Moonbeam’s very similar nose template. Like the Midas the Firewire Moonbeam has a nice and wide nose, which helps it generate speed in small waves and gives the board a quicker, more skate like feel. The nose rocker on the Moonbeam has been increased and is not what you’d expect in a small wave design. This gives the opportunity to lay into turns in critical areas of the wave without hanging up the nose, where most groveler style boards suffer. Performance driven surfers will appreciate the high tail rocker as well, making the board entirely more responsive than what you would expect. Overall, compared to the Midas’s the Moonbeam will perform a bit better in softer weaker conditions while the Midas will be more ideal for rounder, more hollow waves.
