Description
Who - Designed as a collaborative effort between Matt "Mayhem" Biolos and Taj Burrow (TB). Unlike the heavily refined Whiplash, the Beach Buggy was built to be an "every-man’s" high-performance shortboard. In the right size, it can be ridden and enjoyed by average to above-average surfers—not just pro-level riders and "skinny kids."
When - You should surf this board when the waves are small, weak, or "junk" surf. Because of the wider tail and relaxed rocker, it is an excellent "grovel" board that creates its own speed and lift at low speeds. However, because it maintains the precision and control of a true performance board (Taj Burrow won the Hurley Pro at Lower Trestles on it), it is highly versatile and handles standard, everyday beach break conditions beautifully without feeling sluggish.
What - A high-performance shortboard derived directly from the Whiplash-TB. It features a relaxed entry and central rocker with a wider nose for better forward drive, plus a wider hip and tail block to generate lift. However, it still maintains Taj's hyper-extended tail rocker for doing tight-radius arcs off the back foot. It holds its volume out into the rails and ends, meaning it is designed to be ridden 1 to 2 inches shorter than a standard shortboard.
