Huntsman Q&A
What size Huntsman should I get?
The Huntsman is a mid-length egg, so ride it well longer than your shortboard, typically 6" to 12" or more, with plenty more volume. For example, a 5’11 shortboard rider usually looks at the 6’10 (21" x 2 3/4", 44.06 L) to the 7’4 (21 3/8" x 3", 50.40 L), going longer for more glide. Stock sizes run from 6’6 (21" x 2 5/8", 39.98 L) to 8’6 (22 1/4" x 3 1/4", 63.20 L). Our shop staff can help you pick a size.
What fins does the Huntsman use?
A single fin in a single-fin box. Chris’s own templates by FCS suit it: the FCS II Christenson Mid Tracker (7.5", 8" and 8.5"), tuned to match the drive and release of his mid-length and alternative designs, or the Christenson x FCS II Single Fin (7.5" to 9.5"), built for the smooth drive of his mid-lengths and classic shapes. Size the fin up with the board length and for more hold, down for a looser feel.
What is the Huntsman?
Chris Christenson’s interpretation of the classic egg. He takes influence from famous San Diego shaper Skip Frye while adding his own performance twist: a down-railed egg built for speed and maneuverability. In Chris’s words, with some tweaks of his own style and his own curves, a lot of the genes of this board come from the San Diego eggs of the mid-70’s.
What waves is the Huntsman for?
A large variety of conditions, from crumbly knee-high surf to solid overhead waves. The egg outline and down rails give it speed and glide in small surf and enough hold and maneuverability when it gets bigger.
Who is the Huntsman for?
All skill levels can ride and enjoy it, and it will be enjoyed most by fans of single fins and retro egg shapes who want a smooth, fast mid-length.
What construction does the Huntsman come in?
We stock the Huntsman in PU (poly). Every Christenson board we have carried has been a traditional polyurethane/polyester build, made in America at Christenson’s factory. Each in-stock board on this page lists its construction and fin set-up.
