What size Greedy Beaver should I get?

Size it like a mid-length: 6–12 inches longer than your shortboard with a lot more volume. Firewire’s current chart runs 6’0 (20 1/2” x 2 1/2”, 37.5 L), 6’2 (40.9 L), 6’4 (43.6 L), 6’6 (46.4 L), 6’8 (49.1 L) and 6’10 (52.1 L). A surfer on a 6’0 shortboard around 30 liters would usually land on the 6’4 or 6’6; longboarders stepping down and bigger surfers will prefer the 6’8 or 6’10. We have also carried shorter 5’8 to 6’0 Greedy Beavers from earlier ranges.

What fins does the Greedy Beaver use?

Five boxes, so it rides as a thruster or a quad. Because it is built for drive and glide, a raked template suits it: Firewire’s Velox fin set (their raked performance baseline, with a beveled leading edge for stability) or Dan Mann’s Manncave set (his balanced, slightly pivot-leaning rake). On FCS II boards the FCS II Carver is the equivalent; on Futures, the Legacy R-series. Boards from 2023 on have Futures boxes; earlier Greedy Beavers came in either FCS II or Futures.

What waves is the Greedy Beaver for?

Everyday waves where you want a higher wave count. Firewire currently builds the Greedy Beaver in Helium with Volcanic lamination – a stringerless EPS core with paulownia and balsa wood rails, laminated with basalt fiber for Firewire’s most durable finish. We have also stocked it in standard Helium, Timbertek (paulownia wood deck skin with bio-resin) and LFT (Linear Flex Technology). Each board on this page lists its construction and fin boxes.

Can I custom order a Greedy Beaver?

Firewire builds the Greedy Beaver in set stock sizes rather than true one-off customs, so there is no custom board builder for it.
