Hypto Krypto Q&A
What size Hypto Krypto should I get?
Haydenshapes’ own guide: if you are experienced, surf it 1" to 2" shorter than your everyday shortboard; if you are starting out, order it 2" bigger than your everyday shortboard; and if you are stepping down from a longboard or mini mal, order 6’2 and up. For example, an experienced 5’11 shortboard rider looks at the 5’9 (20 1/8" x 2 9/16", 32.30 L) or the 5’10 (20 1/4" x 2 5/8", 33.79 L), while a newer surfer on a 5’11 looks at the 6’0 (20 1/2" x 2 3/4", 36.56 L) or 6’2 (20 3/4" x 2 3/4", 38.40 L). Stock sizes run from 5’0 (19" x 2 1/16", 21.78 L) to 7’0 (23" x 3 1/2", 60.56 L), and the 5’4, 5’6 and 5’8 each come in two thicknesses. Our shop staff can help you pick a size.
What fins does the Hypto Krypto use?
It comes with 5 fin boxes (Futures or FCS II), so you can ride it as a thruster or a quad. Hayden Cox designed his own fins for exactly these boards. On FCS II, the FCS II Haydenshapes HS set (Tri, or the Tri-Quad set for 5-fin boards) is an all-round template with a longer base for exceptional speed when driving off the bottom, made for the Hypto Krypto and other higher-volume, lower-rocker models. On Futures, Haydenshapes recommends its HS1 (Large) and HS2 (Medium) Generation Series fins. Ride the thruster set for control and the quad for extra speed and drive in softer surf.
Why is the Hypto Krypto called the one board quiver?
Because of its versatility across all types of surf. Haydenshapes describes it as a balance of tradition and modern performance, suited to the elite surfer and the everyday surfer alike, and it works from small 1 to 3 ft beach breaks up to barrels of 8 ft. The low rocker, wide nose and midsection and the extra volume under the chest make it paddle and generate speed easily in average surf, while the pulled-in lower half and round pin tail give it hold and drive when the waves get better.
What waves is the Hypto Krypto for?
All conditions. As an everyday model it is designed to catch more waves in a range of conditions: it easily generates speed down the line at your local beach break and holds up when the conditions present themselves, from flat days to double-overhead faces at beach breaks, reefs and points.
Who is the Hypto Krypto for?
Every skill level. Beginners and improvers get an easy-paddling board with a high wave count, and experienced surfers get a fast, forgiving everyday board that still holds in good waves. Haydenshapes says it is suitable for all skill levels, from the everyday surfer to the elite level surfer.
What construction does the Hypto Krypto come in?
Haydenshapes builds the Hypto Krypto in FutureFlex, its patented construction with a parabolic carbon-fibre frame around an EPS core and epoxy glassing, which is light, strong and lively underfoot, and in traditional PU (poly). Each in-stock board on this page lists its construction and fin boxes.
