MISC. Q&A
What size MISC. should I get?
The MISC. is a performance twin that carries its volume in a shorter, wider package, so ride it at your regular shortboard volume or 1 to 2 L more. Comparing stock dims, it runs about 5" to 6" shorter than a standard performance shortboard of the same volume. For example, if you ride a 5’11 shortboard at about 28.5 L, look at the 5’6 (19 3/4" x 2 3/8", 28.46 L) or the 5’7 (19 7/8" x 2 7/16", 30.06 L). Stock sizes run from 5’5 (19 5/8" x 2 5/16", 27.37 L) to 6’2 (20 3/4" x 2 3/4", 37.89 L). Our shop staff can help you pick a size.
What fins does the MISC. use?
It is a 2+1: two twin-fin boxes with a small trailer box behind, in Futures or FCS II. Haydenshapes designed it to benefit from the speed of a twin while holding like a thruster when you surf it top to bottom, so a twin + 1 set with a drivey, upright-ish twin template suits it best: on Futures, the T1 Twin + 1; on FCS II, the MR Twin + 1. Pull the trailer for a looser, pure-twin feel in small waves.
What is the MISC.?
In Haydenshapes’ words, they wanted to design a twin to progress your surfing, not to dumb it down. The MISC. is a twin (or 2+1) that rides like your performance board top to bottom, but has you flying around the wave with that drag-free twin-fin feeling: astoundingly drivey, super quick and loose above the lip when searching for release. It is a team-rider favorite, made available for anyone wanting that elusive performance twin.
What waves is the MISC. for?
Nearly all conditions in anything under head high, at beach breaks, reefs and points. The flat rocker planes through surface chop and lets you make sections you never thought were possible.
Who is the MISC. for?
Intermediate to advanced surfers looking to spice up their quiver who know how to navigate sections to maximize a wave’s potential.
What construction does the MISC. come in?
Haydenshapes builds the MISC. in FutureFlex, its patented construction with a parabolic carbon-fibre frame around an EPS core and epoxy glassing, which is light, strong and lively underfoot, and in traditional PU (poly). Each in-stock board on this page lists its construction and fin boxes.
