What size Round Nose Fish Retro should I get?
As a retro fish with generous dims, the RNF Retro is ridden shorter and wider than your regular shortboard, with a tad more volume: we recommend 1 to 2 liters more. Comparing stock dims, that works out about 6" to 7" shorter than a Driver 3.0. For example, if you ride a 5’11 Driver 3.0 (28.50 L), look at the 5’4 (20.50" x 2.35", 29.75 L). Stock sizes run from 5’0 (19.50" x 2.25", 25.25 L) to 6’2 (22.50" x 2.70", 44.00 L). What fins does the Round Nose Fish Retro use?
The RNF Retro is built for a quad or a twin-fin set-up (FCS II or Futures boxes), and the side-cut outline is there so you can run a twin without the tail sliding out. Neither FCS nor Futures lists a pick for this model, so for a quad choose a set made for a traditional fish: on FCS II the Split Keel Quad (one size, L–XL), an upright, high-area keel template FCS designed for traditional fish with moderate-to-low rocker, or the Performer Split Keel Quad for small waves; on Futures, Matt Biolos’s own Mayhem Evil Quad, built around the large-area Evil Twin fronts with downsized quad rears for fish and alternative boards. As a twin, the FCS II MR Twin + 1 (Medium-Large) or the Futures Mayhem Evil Twin+1 (Medium, Large) give you a large-area twin with a small trailer for control. FCS sizes these fins by weight: Small 120–155 lbs, Medium 145–175 lbs, Large 165–200 lbs. Futures sizes its fins as Small 95–135 lbs, Medium 125–175 lbs and Large 165 lbs and up.
