R.V. Quick Facts
…Lost R.V. quick facts
| Brand / shaper | …Lost Surfboards, Matt “Mayhem” Biolos |
| Based on | A blend of …Lost’s Bottom Feeder / Couch Potato / Lazy Toy genre of “Domesticated” designs |
| Board type | “Recreational Vehicle”: a small-wave board for maximum fun with minimum effort |
| Best waves | Small, everyday surf: “cruise the coast in style and comfort” and “surf in a resplendent state of wave catching excess and bliss” |
| Built for | Surfers who want to make the most of their precious free time with easy wave catching, without giving up snaps and carves |
| Tail | Double-wing squash: double wing “flyers” added to reduce surface area and increase bite and precision in turns |
| Design | The reduced surface area in the tail adds confidence that it will not slide out in hard snaps and carves; the outline was also tweaked to reduce some area in the forward 12" to 18" of the board without reducing drive or paddle ability, so the nose “comes around” quicker in turns and the board looks and feels more like a performance design |
| Fins | 5-fin: ride as a thruster or quad (FCS II or Futures boxes). Best template: upright, pivot-style (FCS Reactor family; Futures Pivot). Try the FCS II Mayhem Pivot Tri, with the Pivot quad rears for a quad, or the Futures P-series Blackstix. |

R.V. Q&A
What size R.V. should I get?
The R.V. is one of …Lost’s Domesticated small-wave designs, so ride it shorter and wider than your regular shortboard, with a tad more volume: we recommend 1 to 2 liters more. Comparing …Lost’s stock dims, it runs about 5" to 6" shorter than a Driver 3.0 of the same volume, and the chart starts at 5’3 and about 28 liters, so lighter surfers end up with a bigger jump in volume. For example, if you ride a 5’11 Driver 3.0 (28.50 L), look at the 5’5 (20.50" x 2.32", 29.41 L) or the 5’6 (20.75" x 2.38", 30.10 L). Stock sizes run from 5’3 (20.00" x 2.32", 27.78 L) to 6’4 (23.00" x 2.93", 49.23 L). If you don’t know your volume, use the Volume calculator at the top of our …Lost 3D board builder: enter your height, weight, skill, fitness and the waves you surf, and it recommends a volume by board type, from shortboard to fish, hybrid and mid-length. Our shop staff can help you pick a size.
What fins does the R.V. use?
The R.V. has five fin boxes (FCS II or Futures), so you can ride it as a thruster or a quad. Neither FCS nor Futures lists this model in its …Lost guide, so we go by the template FCS pairs with …Lost’s low-rocker small-wave shortboards such as the Puddle Jumper Pro. The template to look for is an upright, pivot-style fin: on FCS II the Mayhem Pivot Tri (Small, Medium, Large), with the Mayhem Pivot quad rears (Medium, Large) for a quad. FCS classes the Mayhem Pivot as a Reactor-family fin: a more upright template with less sweep (rake), built for speed and tight turns, and suited to lower-rocker boards. FCS sizes these fins by weight: Small 120–155 lbs, Medium 145–175 lbs, Large 165–200 lbs. On Futures, the matching template is a Pivot fin, such as the P-series Blackstix (P4, P6, P8), with the F-series Blackstix (F4, F6, F8) as a neutral option for small or soft waves, or the Mayhem 3.0 5-Fin (Medium, Large) if you prefer a raked, drivier feel. Futures sizes its fins as Small 95–135 lbs, Medium 125–175 lbs and Large 165 lbs and up.
What is the R.V.?
Exactly what its name implies, says …Lost: a “Recreational Vehicle”, the latest in its quest for the ultimate Domesticated design, built for extracting maximum fun with minimum effort from your precious free time. If you want to cruise the coast in style and comfort and catch waves to excess, the R.V. is for you.
How is the R.V. different from the Couch Potato and Lazy Toy?
It stems from the same Bottom Feeder / Couch Potato / Lazy Toy genre, with two noticeable updates: double wing flyers added to the tail to reduce surface area and increase bite and precision in turns, which adds the confidence of not sliding out in hard snaps and carves, and a tweaked outline that reduces some area in the forward 12" to 18" of the board without losing drive or paddle ability. …Lost says the nose comes around quicker in turns and the board looks and feels more like a performance design.
What waves is the R.V. for?
Small, everyday surf where wave count matters. It is a high-volume, easy-paddling Domesticated design for a resplendent state of wave-catching excess, with the double-wing tail giving it enough bite to snap and carve rather than just cruise.
What constructions does the R.V. come in?
We always stock the R.V. in PU (poly), Light Speed II and Black Sheep Built, and we have also stocked it in Black Dart. Each in-stock board on this page lists its construction. All constructions are available for custom order through our custom order form.
