Taj Whiplash Q&A
What size Taj Whiplash should I get?

What fins does the Taj Whiplash use?
The Taj Whiplash is a thruster, and we stock it with FCS II or Futures boxes. Neither FCS nor Futures lists this model in its …Lost guide, so we go by both brands’ pick for …Lost’s performance shortboards, of which the Whiplash-TB is the sharpest. The template to look for is a raked, drive-oriented fin: on FCS II the Mayhem Driver Tri (Small, Medium, Large), which FCS pairs with the Driver 3.0 and …Lost’s other performance shortboards. FCS classes the Mayhem Driver as a Carver-family fin: an elongated template with more sweep (rake), built for hold and longer, drawn-out turns. FCS sizes these fins by weight: Small 120–155 lbs, Medium 145–175 lbs, Large 165–200 lbs. On Futures, the Mayhem 3.0 (Small, Medium, Large) is the matching rake template, Matt Biolos’s own signature fin, with the R-series Blackstix (R4, R6, R8) as the other rake option. Futures sizes its fins as Small 95–135 lbs, Medium 125–175 lbs and Large 165 lbs and up.
How is the Taj Whiplash different from the Beach Buggy?
The Taj Whiplash (Whiplash-TB) is the pro model: an aggressive, continuous curve in rocker and outline with no hip or bump in front of the fins and a pulled-in nose, built for Taj’s razor-sharp, tight-radius surfing. The Beach Buggy is derived from it as the every-man’s version, with a more relaxed entry and central rocker, a wider nose and a wider hip and tail block, so it works in small junk surf and suits surfers of average to above-average ability. The Beach Buggy is ridden 1" to 2" shorter than the Whiplash-TB.
