Tube Pig Quick Facts
…Lost Tube Pig quick facts
| Brand / shaper | …Lost Surfboards, Matt “Mayhem” Biolos |
| Collaboration | Taj Burrow: born in 2014 while building a quiver for Taj to ride at home in Western Australia, boards built with a bit of substance to withstand and perform in the battering, wind-buffed barrels of his beach breaks and reefs |
| Board type | Tube-riding shortboard, a subtle alternative to exaggerated shortened step-ups |
| Best waves | Powerful, pumping days in hollow beach breaks and reefs, at home or on the road |
| Model history | The first one was just over 5’9 x 18.32" x 2.25" and 25 liters, with “Tube Shooter” written along the stringer; after a run of swell in WA, Taj texted that it was “the best board I have ever ridden in the tube. It’s a real Tube Pig” |
| Tail | Pronounced round pin |
| Design | Narrower-than-average hip between the feet and a slightly wider-than-typical nose that “oozes drive”; a typical high-performance rocker profile with less concave throughout, so the rail rocker runs nearly parallel to the stringer with no radical curves or breaks in the rail line; the nose is slightly thicker than the tail at the 12" and 24" marks, adding paddle power and drive off the front foot (and helping against snapped noses) |
| Fins | 5-fin: ride as a thruster or quad (FCS II or Futures boxes). Best template: raked, drive-oriented (FCS Carver family; Futures Rake). Try the FCS II Mayhem Driver Tri, with the Driver quad rears for a quad, or the Futures Mayhem 3.0 5-Fin. |
| Stock sizes | 5’6 to 6’8 (22.50 L to 38.35 L) |
| Sizing | …Lost: about the same size as your normal board, or just a bit longer; in …Lost’s stock dims it runs about 1" to 2" longer than a Driver 3.0 at the same volume |
| Constructions we stock | Always: PU (poly), Light Speed II and Black Sheep Built. All constructions are available for custom order |
| Custom orders | Yes, through our …Lost 3D board builder |
Tube Pig Q&A
What size Tube Pig should I get?
…Lost says the Tube Pig is meant to be ridden about the same size, or just a bit longer, than your normal board, mainly for powerful, pumping days in hollow beach breaks and reefs. It is a refined, lower-volume chart, so comparing …Lost’s stock dims it runs about 1" to 2" longer than a Driver 3.0 of the same volume. For example, if you ride a 5’11 Driver 3.0 (28.50 L), look at the 6’0 (18.75" x 2.40", 28.00 L) or the 6’1 (18.88" x 2.44", 29.25 L). Stock sizes run from 5’6 (18.00" x 2.18", 22.50 L) to 6’8 (20.00" x 2.75", 38.35 L). If you don’t know your volume, use the Volume calculator at the top of our …Lost 3D board builder: enter your height, weight, skill, fitness and the waves you surf, and it recommends a volume by board type, from shortboard to fish, hybrid and mid-length. Our shop staff can help you pick a size.
What fins does the Tube Pig use?
The Tube Pig has five fin boxes (FCS II or Futures), so you can ride it as a thruster or a quad. Neither FCS nor Futures lists this model in its …Lost guide, so we go by both brands’ pick for …Lost’s performance shortboards; a raked fin adds the hold a tube board needs in powerful waves. The template to look for is a raked, drive-oriented fin: on FCS II the Mayhem Driver Tri (Small, Medium, Large), with the Mayhem Driver quad rears (Medium, Large) for a quad. FCS classes the Mayhem Driver as a Carver-family fin: an elongated template with more sweep (rake), built for hold and longer, drawn-out turns. FCS sizes these fins by weight: Small 120–155 lbs, Medium 145–175 lbs, Large 165–200 lbs. On Futures, the Mayhem 3.0 5-Fin (Medium, Large) gives you the same rake template in a thruster-plus-quad set, or use the R-series Blackstix (R4, R6, R8) as a thruster. Futures sizes its fins as Small 95–135 lbs, Medium 125–175 lbs and Large 165 lbs and up.
What is the story behind the Tube Pig?
In 2014, …Lost built Taj Burrow a quiver to ride at home in Western Australia: a handful of boards with a bit of substance built to withstand beatings from, and perform in, the battering, wind-buffed barrels of his beloved beach breaks and radical reefs, with no concern for contests, ultra-light weights or airs. One board, just over 5’9 x 18.32" x 2.25" and 25 liters, had “Tube Shooter” written along its stringer. After a run of swell, Taj’s excited texts poured in: “this is the best board I have ever ridden in the tube. It’s a real Tube Pig. The thickness lets me in early and it knifes into solid tubes better than any shorty would.” The name stuck.
What waves is the Tube Pig for?
Powerful, pumping days in hollow beach breaks and reefs, at home or on the road. Taj found it gave him the paddle power to catch solid tubes and let him in early, while the short little board fit the curve of the wave better than a gun and still held in.
How is the Tube Pig different from a step-up?
…Lost says that, unlike the Round Up, Rock Up and other exaggerated shortened step-ups, the Tube Pig’s features are all subtle: a more pronounced round pin, a narrower hip between the feet, a slightly wider nose, a typical HP rocker with less concave so the rail rocker runs parallel to the stringer, and a nose slightly thicker than the tail. Individually they are not strikingly different, but together “the whole became greater than the sum of its parts”, and it is ridden about the same size as your normal board rather than much longer.
