Short Round Q&A
What size Short Round should I get?
The Short Round is a high-performance hybrid, so ride it shorter and wider than your regular shortboard with your usual volume or a touch more. Comparing …Lost’s stock dims, it runs about 3" shorter than a Driver 3.0 of the same volume. For example, if you ride a 5’11 Driver 3.0 (28.50 L), look at the 5’8 (19.75" x 2.32", 29.10 L). Stock sizes run from 5’3 (18.75" x 2.18", 24.00 L) to 6’4 (21.50" x 2.81", 42.10 L). If you don’t know your volume, use the Volume calculator at the top of our …Lost 3D board builder: enter your height, weight, skill, fitness and the waves you surf, and it recommends a volume by board type, from shortboard to fish, hybrid and mid-length. Our shop staff can help you pick a size.
What fins does the Short Round use?
The Short Round has five fin boxes (FCS II or Futures), so you can ride it as a thruster or a quad. Neither FCS nor Futures lists this model in its …Lost guide, so we go by the pick both brands make for …Lost’s performance hybrids and shortboards. The template to look for is a raked, drive-oriented fin: on FCS II the Mayhem Driver Tri (Small, Medium, Large), with the Mayhem Driver quad rears (Medium, Large) for a quad. FCS classes the Mayhem Driver as a Carver-family fin: an elongated template with more sweep (rake), built for hold and longer, drawn-out turns. FCS sizes these fins by weight: Small 120–155 lbs, Medium 145–175 lbs, Large 165–200 lbs. On Futures, the Mayhem 3.0 5-Fin (Medium, Large) gives you the same rake template in a thruster-plus-quad set, or use the R-series Blackstix (R4, R6, R8) as a thruster. Futures sizes its fins as Small 95–135 lbs, Medium 125–175 lbs and Large 165 lbs and up.
What is the Short Round?
…Lost’s high-performance hybrid in the tradition of the Rocket: it bridges the gap between easy-riding cheater boards and the HP shortboard. The speed comes from a low entry rocker and a wide-ish nose with a forward wide point and generous concave; the performance comes from a moderate tail rocker, a double concave through the fins and the same modern bump squash tail you would find on a contest-style small-wave shortboard. As …Lost says, it doesn’t look like anything fancy and there are no gimmicks, but there is a lot packed into this little board.
What waves is the Short Round for?
Everyday surf. It was tested all around Southern California in the summer of 2014, and it combines the easy speed of a cheater board in small waves with the tail rocker, double concave and bump squash of a small-wave high-performance shortboard, so it still turns like a shortboard when the waves get better.
How is the Short Round different from the Rocket?
It follows the Rocket tradition of easy-riding hybrids, but leans further toward the HP shortboard: a moderate rather than flipped-up tail rocker, a double concave through the fins and a modern bump squash tail give it contest-style performance, while the low entry rocker, wide-ish nose, forward wide point and generous concave keep the Rocket-style speed.
