What size Party Crasher should I get?
…Lost designed the Party Crasher to be ridden 4" to 8" shorter than a Crowd Killer or Smooth Operator, or 4" to 8" longer than its Puddle Jumper styles and short hybrids, with similar width and thickness to all of them. For example, if you ride a 5’10 Puddle Jumper or other short hybrid, look at the 6’2 to 6’6 (38.00 L to 44.00 L); if you ride a 7’0 Crowd Killer, look at the 6’4 to 6’8 (41.00 L to 46.50 L). Stock sizes run from 5’10 (19.50" x 2.57", 32.00 L) to 7’0 (22.00" x 3.03", 51.00 L). What fins does the Party Crasher use?
The Party Crasher has five fin boxes (FCS II or Futures), so you can ride it as a thruster or a quad. Neither FCS nor Futures lists this model in its …Lost guide, so we go by the template FCS pairs with the Smooth Operator and the original Puddle Jumper, the two boards the Party Crasher sits between. The template to look for is a raked, drive-oriented fin: on FCS II the Mayhem Driver Tri (Small, Medium, Large), with the Mayhem Driver quad rears (Medium, Large) for a quad. FCS classes the Mayhem Driver as a Carver-family fin: an elongated template with more sweep (rake), built for hold and longer, drawn-out turns. FCS sizes these fins by weight: Small 120–155 lbs, Medium 145–175 lbs, Large 165–200 lbs. On Futures, the Mayhem 3.0 5-Fin (Medium, Large) gives you the same rake template in a thruster-plus-quad set, or use the R-series Blackstix (R4, R6, R8) as a thruster. Futures sizes its fins as Small 95–135 lbs, Medium 125–175 lbs and Large 165 lbs and up.
How is the Party Crasher different from the Crowd Killer?
Matt Biolos started with his favorite 7’2 Crowd Killer Round, chopped 6" off the tail and made it a hard diamond, which shortens the rail line for quicker, more radical turns, then took 2" off the nose so the nose rocker settles lower and carries more width forward for glide and early entry. The generous tail rocker stays the same but, squeezed into the shorter board, fits tight pockets and short, broken-up beach breaks. It keeps the Crowd Killer’s low rail volume and continuous-curve outline and adds a deeper, more radical single-to-double concave for lift in smaller surf and tighter, more vertical turns.
Is the Party Crasher a mid-length?
It sits between …Lost’s short, wide hybrids, which are ridden at or below your height, and its Mid-length Mayhem models like the Smooth Operator and Crowd Killer. Matt Biolos found a 10" to 14" length gap between those two ranges in his own quiver, and the Party Crasher was designed to bridge it: a board that glides and paddles like the longer boards but is more maneuverable and easier to travel with, like the smaller boards.
Who is the Party Crasher for?
Anyone who wants to crash a line-up and feast on typical surf “like an open bar or free buffet”, as …Lost puts it. It is also, in …Lost’s words, an age-appropriate board that allows more mature surfers to navigate crowded line-ups and hit their wave quota without the typical reduction in performance that comes with going to a longer, higher-volume board.
